Education During Covid -19 Lock down Part 1- How we got here

 This is a blog chronicling the experiences of an educator in Canada trying to relate to what educators are facing in Nigeria. The year 2020 started just like other years. Christmas and New year festivities over and back to school. Going back to school in January students were well rested, ready and eager to learn. I felt at this point that I finally gotten a good grip on my students. September to December is usually when we get to understand our selves and build a classroom culture and establish a set routine. We had become a tight knit community and my kids could read the expression on my face and and know if they had crossed a boundary or impressed me. (We Nigerian mothers know how to make those faces that mean a thousand words without saying a word.)  Things were looking good and plans were in place to do the next hectic lap until Spring break or so we thought. We Can Do Better- Re: Okotie Eboh Primary School 1 Sapele, Delta State

Pupils Attending Classes At Okotie Eboh Primary School Sapele In an about 72 hours,  a viral video made of Success Adegho, a  pupil of Okotie Eboh Primary 1 School Sapele, made rounds on various social media platforms. It was alleged that she was sent home from school for not being able to pay the N900 ($4) exam fee that her school authorities prescribed. Several good Samaritans have arisen and taken on the exam fee for several children and I understand that Success has been relocated to a private school. End of story? I do not think so.  This was truly an eye-opener to the decadent quality of education that this elementary school is dishing out in the oil-rich Delta State of Nigeria. As a people, we must demand that the responsible government authority be held accountable.  Let's come together as one people and renovate this school, build a library annex, a computer lab and improve the quality of education delivered at this school a...
